Before being married by Jessica’s brother-in-law, Josh, in the most recent season of Mama June, Shyann and Jessica dated for a few years. Along with raising Harper together, they had openly expressed their wish to have a child of their own. Which then led to the story arc about asking her sister, Pumpkin, and brother-in-law Josh Efird for his sperm donation. In the end, fans watched the Mama June season 8 finale implode on Josh, Jessica and Shyann. Allegedly, the 3 of them slept together in an attempt to get someone pregnant. Fans also watched Josh Efird officiate Jessica and Shyann’s wedding, or so we thought.
Mama June: Family Crisis: Fan Backlash Is Real
The fan backlash has heated up, with calls that the marriage is fake and the storyline was just for ratings. Jessica went on TikTok and explained that the wedding on the show was not her real wedding, that they filmed the Josh-officiating wedding in October 2025, but that they were actually already legally married on February 21st, 2025. Would this mean all the wedding planning and the Trina drama with June Shannon was all fake? Josh never really officiated because the wedding was just part of the storyline drama?
Jessica explains why they allegedly slept with Josh “The reason it happened was because me and Jessie were strictly wanting to grow our family and have a child from, you know, just me and her,” Shyann says. “It’s not that, ‘Oh, we had a romantic relationship.’ No, it’s nothing like that at all.”
Mama June Breaks Silence
June Shannon is now facing backlash and big questions about how real or fake season 8 really is. She explained:
“Look guys this is very real they didn’t get married for ratings they got married February last year and had a wedding in October yall have to realize sometimes things don’t work out and people decided to go there separate ways this is fake it’s very real but Jessica will still be there for Harper they just wanted yall to know first before yall heard it from other sources and all.”
Mama June is definitely the queen of hype, and she does keep her fans on their toes. Mama June had said dark secrets would be revealed about her nemesis son-in-law, Josh Efird. The finale exploded after Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ revealed that Josh had slept with Shyann and Jessica. The whole finale was based around Jessica and Shyann. Even Shyann’s mother, Trina, was part of the big drama in the season, always combating June. Josh Efird’s girlfriend, Breanna, was telling fans that Josh will not be back, and only a $1 million offer could get him to come back. Was all of that hyping the drama before the big finale?
