Nikki Sanderson has given birth to her first child with former Emmerdale star Anthony Quinlan. The couple announced the birth of their baby son this evening. In a joint post to Instagram they said: “Happy due date little man. You blessed our lives a few days earlier than expected and filled our world with so much joy. Daddy and Mummy love you so much Son.”

The message was shared alongside an adorable black and white snap of their son, with “Hello world” written on the picture. Nikki is known for her role as Candice Stowe on Coronation Street.

She played the character for six years from 1999 until 2005, and played Maxine Minniver in Hollyoaks. Anthony is recognised for his role as Pete Barton on Emmerdale.

The character quit the show in 2019 and was last seen driving to Liverpool to be reunited with his brother, Ross. Away from the screen, the couple regularly share insights into their relationship and family life.

They announced the pregnancy on Christmas Eve last year as they shared a personalised bauble for their Christmas tree. Nikki said: “Merry Christmas from the three of us. Baby Quinlan due Spring 2026.”

After the birth announcement Nikki and Anthony have been sent loving messages from friends, family and fans. Charley Webb said: “All that hair, just like Buster was. Welcome to the world little one.”

Denise Welch commented: “Nikki! You’re a mummy. We’re so happy for you both” and Coronation Street star Jane Danson wrote “Congratulations darling the best news.”

Laura Norton said: “Welcome gorgeous one, congratulations lovely people” and Samia Longchambon added “Oh my! Massive congratulations to you all can’t wait to meet little man!”

At the time, Nikki said getting the positive pregnancy test result they’d both been dreaming of saw them hit by a whirlwind of mixed emotions.

She told The Mirror: “I felt absolutely elated that we got this confirmation and that the baby was fine – the first time seeing the heartbeat on the scans was the most amazing, incredible feeling,”

“We’ve had a lot of ups and downs in our journey to becoming parents and it’s been really hard on us. But now, waiting for our beautiful baby to arrive, it’s just incredible.

“Every person trying to conceive has their own journey and, sadly, some are easier than others. But being where we are now makes all the ups and downs worth it.”
