SURVIVOR is making another unannounced format change – and fans aren’t happy.
Viewers suspect the switch is due to another celebrity cameo.
Survivor fans are blasting the reality competition show for extending runtimes and creating gimmicky twists, which devoted viewers say spoils the original goal of outwitting, outplaying, and outlasting fellow contestants.
With just four episodes to go and 11 castaways left, viewers have been left wondering when contestants are going to be eliminated.
“These twists are endless, enough!! Bring it back to the original game,” a fan commented on Instagram.
While most season 50 episodes have been 90 minutes long, a few have topped two hours or longer.
The season premiere was three hours long, and the season finale is expected to have the same runtime.
The sixth episode, which aired on April 1, was two hours long.
On the East Coast, the broadcast was interrupted due to Donald Trump’s address on the war in Iran, tacking another 20 minutes onto the already extended runtime.
Wednesday’s episode is also scheduled to be two hours long, and fans aren’t happy with the unexpected change.
“I absolutely hate two hour eps,” one fan said in a post on X.
“It’s getting kinda ridiculous,” another user commented.
Fans suspect the extended episode could be because of a guest appearance by MrBeast.
“That’s just to give mr beast more airtime,” one fan said on X of the change.
The YouTuber previously teased his future Survivor cameo on Rob Has a Podcast.
“I can’t even talk about it. I can’t say anything. But you guys, just give it an honest try,” MrBeast told Survivor alum and podcast host Rob Cesternino.
“I know — you’re not a fan of us cameos. You don’t like us. But trust me, ours isn’t just some silly cameo. You’ll like it. Just come into it with an open mind, and give it a try,” he said, addressing viewers.
MrBeast’s plea came after country singer and Survivor superfan Zac Brown’s appearance on a recent episode to host a talent show became the lowest rated installment of Survivor ever.
One viewer wrote: “Why is Zac Brown getting more confessionals than the castaways?? This is ridiculous.”
Another said: “I didn’t wait 50 seasons for this to turn into a celebrity cameo fest.”
MrBeast responded to a post on X about the episode’s bad ratings: “Oh boy, hopefully they like my episode. What we did might be my favorite content I’ve ever filmed.”
