One Former Castmate From The Young And The Restless Made A Shocking Admission During A Recent Podcast

Fans have seen various stories unfold in Genoa City since The Young and the Restless made its debut in 1973. As with any long-running soap, the show has seen various actors come and go.

One former actor who appeared on the soap in the past recently made an appearance on a podcast show. During this time, they shared a story about their treatment from the showrunners that has gotten fans talking.

Actor Rory Gibson recently joined the cast of General Hospital, taking over the role of Michael Corinthos from Chad Duell. However, many fans know him from a previous soap role: playing Noah Newman on The Young and the Restless from 2021 to 2023.

Gibson recently appeared on Maurice Benard’s State of Mind podcast. Speaking with Sonny Corinthos’ actor, Gibson shared that he and his fiancée, Alicia Ruela, were homeless following his departure from the show and the 2023 SAG/AFTRA strikes.

Gibson then made a shocking admission, “Things got real, real bumpy for a while because we hit the strikes. I’ve never shared this publicly, but me and my fiancée were essentially homeless.”

The actor shared, “I booked… a small role in like the Zack Snyder movie,” referring to the space opera film, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire. He continued, “Then, I kept testing for these big projects. I kept testing. I’m on the right road, and the strikes hit, and everything shuts down.”

Gibson noted, “Simultaneously, I’m not getting called in for Y&R anymore. So, all of a sudden, everything goes dry.” Sharing that this happened at a bad time, “I already wasn’t making a ton of money. It got to a point where [Ruela] was modeling professionally, and that dried up too. Neither of us were making any money, and we couldn’t afford a rent, and we had to bounce out.” He also shared that he and Ruela couch-surfed for nearly a year.

Some Fans Thought This Was A Blessing In Disguise For Rory Gibson

With Gibson’s recent admission, many fans have taken to social media, sharing that this might reflect a deeper issue with The Young and the Restless’ showrunners. As one fan wrote, “I think it is horrible the way this show treats some of the cast members. They did the same thing with Paul, Allie, Imani, Chance, etc. They take them off contract, make them ‘recurring,’ never for them to be seen again.”

Taking to the comments, a few fans shared they agreed the show could have treated Gibson better. A few others also felt that other actors on the soap have gotten similar treatment.

Other fans felt the soap did Gibson a favor, feeling he was better off getting his eventual role on General Hospital. Some comments included:
